Colombia has become a safe country for travelers over the last decades. Many people work in the tourism industry and are grateful for more people visiting the country all year around. Also as a solo female traveler you can easily travel to different destinations in the country.
When exploring different sites, cities or national parks, we recommend only taking as much cash as you need, preferably in a pouch under your clothes. In case of a robbery, make sure to remain calm and don’t show any resistance. For ATMs, we recommend to only use those in closed buildings.
If you want to know more about the security conditions in Colombia, please make sure to check out the information the foreign office of your country provides about Colombia.
-
As we can not make any official recommendations for vaccinations, we ask you to check out the information provided by the Foreign Office of your country on required vaccines as well as the website of the Colombian ministry of Health and Social Protection under this link: https://www.minsalud.gov.co/English/Paginas/inicio.aspx
Currently, no vaccines are required to gain entry to Colombia.
However, in the Sierra Nevada and for visiting Tayrona National Park, you are required to provide proof of a yellow fever vaccination.

How to find us
Here you find a description on how to reach us, either by bus or car and how to continue to the Finca by foot.
Please make sure to arrive during the daytime as finding your way in the dark, can be quite challenging!
-
If you come from the direction of Santa Marta, take local bus (a green and blue one) either from the market in the city center or the station 'Mamatoco'. Tell the bus driver that you want to get off at the stop 'Trompito - La Primera' close to Tayrona Plaza. From there you can either take a motor taxi to the Finca or walk.
-
Coming from Santa Marta, follow the main road next to Tayrona National Park towards Palomino (and vice versa). Next to the village of Trompito, you can park your car the the Tayrona Plaza (with secured parking service). If you have a 4x4, you can take the unpaved road just about 200 meters after you pass the Plaza (or before). Follow the road and cross the river. Park your car anywhere around this area and continue by foot to the Finca.
How to reach the Finca by foot
Walk down the unpaved road from where the bus drops you off towards the river.
Either cross directly through the river or go to the left and cross the wooden bridge (see pictures).
At the other side of the river, turn left and cross the soccer field.
You will reach a crossroad. Take the left path along the river (look out for the signs to the Finca).
Continue on the path until you see the sign of La Finca Lorena on the right.
Go up the stairs and turn left. Walk straight and pass the wooden house on the left. You are not there yet!
When you reach the end of this property turn right.
Continue to walk straight on the small path until you reach La Finca Lorena.
About us
Mike, the owner of Finca Lorena, grew up in Switzerland. He has always dreamed of creating a special place in nature where people can find peace and inspiration. In 2019, he made this dream come true and founded Finca Lorena.
A trip to Colombia changed his life. Mike was fascinated by the warm hospitality of the people and the incomparable beauty of nature, especially around the Tayrona National Park.
Together with local craftsmen, Mike began to design and build Finca Lorena. Every corner of the finca is thoughtfully designed and executed with attention to detail. Since its opening, the finca has been continuously developed to offer guests an incomparable experience.
Finca Lorena is more than just a hostel. It is a place to meet, share and relax. Named after Mike's little sister Lorena, the finca symbolizes family, solidarity and a love of nature.
Vision
Mike wants to create a place where people realize that there is more to life than work. He wants to inspire people to live - to slow down, switch off and reflect on themselves and nature.
But his vision goes even further. He wants to bring his guests back to nature. He wants to enable them to recognize its beauty and show them what urgently needs to be protected. That is why part of the income from guests' stays is reinvested in nature conservation in the Sierra Nevada.
